National Human Rights Commission Osun State Office Holds State Consultation on Implementation of National Action Plan for Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in Nigeria
The National Human Rights Commission, Osun State Office, has convened a state consultation meeting on the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP) for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights in Nigeria (2024–2028), with focus on the 2026 implementation framework.
The consultation brought together representatives of various government ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), civil society organisations (CSOs), and security institutions to deliberate on strategies aimed at strengthening human rights protection, accountability, and coordination across Osun State and Nigeria at large.
In her welcome address, the Osun State Coordinator of the Commission, Mrs. Nneka Anigbo, emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in ensuring the successful implementation of the National Action Plan and the protection of citizens’ fundamental rights.
The National Action Plan (NAP) serves as a strategic framework designed to promote, protect, and uphold human rights in Nigeria between 2024 and 2028. It focuses on strengthening access to justice, improving institutional responsiveness, protecting vulnerable groups, and enhancing public awareness of human rights.
Stakeholders at the consultation included representatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigerian Correctional Service, National Orientation Agency, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, Osun State Broadcasting Corporation, Nigerian Television Authority, Ministry of Sports and Special Needs, Bureau for Persons With Disabilities, Ministry of Health, National Population Commission, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Energy, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Lands, Osun State Agency for the Control of AIDS, Rural Development, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, Ministry of Information, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, Ministry of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Women Affairs, Independent National Electoral Commission, Public Complaints Commission, Ministry of Budget, Department of State Services, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Finance, Amotekun Corps, International Federation of Women Lawyers, Nigerian Bar Association, and Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria.

Participants reaffirmed their commitment to the implementation of the National Action Plan and pledged continued collaboration among institutions to strengthen human rights protection, promote justice delivery, and support sustainable development in Nigeria.
