The Defence Headquarters has said the recent kidnap incident in Oyo State was carried out by terrorists displaced from other parts of the country due to intensified military operations.
The military high command disclosed this on Thursday while reacting to growing concerns over insecurity in parts of the South-West region.
According to the Defence Headquarters, the suspects involved in the abduction are members of Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad, a faction linked to terrorist activities in the country.
The military explained that sustained offensives against insurgents in their traditional strongholds have forced some fighters to flee and seek refuge in other regions, where they now engage in criminal activities such as kidnapping.
The DHQ assured Nigerians that security agencies were intensifying surveillance and operations to track down the perpetrators and prevent further attacks.
It also reiterated the commitment of the armed forces to sustaining pressure on terrorist groups and restoring security across the country.
