David Alaba to Leave Real Madrid After Five-Year Spell

 



Austrian defender exits Santiago Bernabéu following injury-plagued final seasons

will leave at the end of the season after five years with the Spanish giants.

The club confirmed on Friday that the Austrian defender’s contract would expire this summer, bringing an end to his successful spell at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Alaba joined Madrid from in 2021 and went on to become part of one of the club’s most successful eras. During his time with Los Blancos, the 33-year-old won 11 trophies, including two UEFA Champions League titles and two La Liga crowns.

However, recurring injury problems limited his playing time in recent seasons, restricting him to 131 appearances for the club.

In a statement, Real Madrid praised the defender for his contribution to the team’s achievements over the past five years.

“Real Madrid wishes to express its gratitude and all its affection to a player who has been part of a team that has marked one of the most successful periods in our history,” the club stated.

Emotional farewell expected at Bernabéu

Alaba is expected to bid farewell to supporters during Madrid’s final La Liga match of the season against on Saturday.

The Austrian defender will reportedly join teammates including and outgoing coach in saying goodbye to fans.

Despite his departure from Madrid, Alaba is still expected to captain at this summer’s World Cup.

The defender has yet to announce his next club destination.
