Osogbo, Osun State – Tuesday, 16 December 2025
The Nigeria Police Force has called on all security agencies to avoid unhealthy rivalry and instead embrace collaboration and synergy in the interest of effective security delivery.
This call was made by ASP Giwa-Alade Emmanuel, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Osun State Command, while speaking on Day One of a three-day security programme organized by the Osun State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, mnips.
ASP Giwa-Alade emphasized that synergy among security agencies is critical to achieving a safer society, noting that security challenges are better addressed through cooperation rather than competition. He explained that the police often appear more visible and versatile compared to other agencies due to the wide scope of responsibilities assigned to them by law.
According to him, most security agencies were created from the police, and the Act establishing the Nigeria Police mandates it to protect lives and property, prevent and detect crime, apprehend offenders, and ensure their prosecution.
These statutory responsibilities, he said, naturally place the police at the forefront of security operations across communities.
He further noted that offences remain offences regardless of who encounters them, stressing that police intervention in certain situations should not be seen as encroachment but as a legal necessity in fulfilling their constitutional mandate. He therefore urged all security agencies to work together, respect one another’s roles, and prioritize collective security over institutional rivalry.
The three-day programme is aimed at strengthening inter-agency cooperation, improving professionalism, and enhancing security coordination across Osun State.
