Police Reacts: Yet to Receive Court Order Halting Tinted Glass Permit Enforcement

The Nigeria Police Force has stated that it is yet to be officially served with the order of the Federal High Court directing the suspension of enforcement on tinted-glass permits across the country.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, made this known on Saturday while clarifying reports that the police had been restrained from arresting or prosecuting motorists with tinted windows.
Hundeyin, writing via his official X handle, explained that although a Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, reportedly issued an interim order in Suit No. FHC/WR/CS/103/2025 – John Aikpokpo-Martins v. Inspector-General of Police & Nigeria Police Force, the Force Headquarters had not been formally served with the ruling.
“While we have not been officially served the court order you’re referring to, let me, in the meantime, show point number eight (of the same order) since you left that part out and focused only on point number six. Nigerians deserve a complete picture, not a skewed one,” Hundeyin posted.
The clarification follows a series of social media publications by human rights lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, who shared excerpts of the judgment suggesting that the court had stopped the police from enforcing the regulation pending the determination of the substantive case.
The police had earlier suspended the issuance of tinted-glass permits in 2022 before resuming the exercise in 2023 under the Police Specialised Services Automation Project (POSSAP) — a move aimed at streamlining special police services through digital applications and payments.
However, with the recent court pronouncement, concerns have risen among motorists and legal observers about whether police officers can still impound vehicles or make arrests over tinted glasses.
Legal analysts told World Lens Reporter that the issue touches on the delicate balance between public safety and individual rights, urging the police to swiftly clarify operational guidelines pending the outcome of the case.
As of press time, the Force Headquarters had yet to issue a formal circular to commands nationwide regarding the matter.
