Ibadan, Oyo State – September 14, 2025
Grief has enveloped the family of Ojo Peters, a journalist and publisher of Daily Monitor Online Blog, who was gunned down by armed robbers in a daylight attack at Oke-Ado, Ibadan South-West Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Peters, who also served as a media aide to spiritual leader Sat Guru Maharaj Ji, was killed on August 18, 2025, shortly after withdrawing ₦10,000 from a bank. According to eyewitnesses, the assailants trailed him on a motorcycle, dispossessed him of his bag, and shot him three times as he attempted to flee.
His widow, Olubunmi, speaking during a condolence visit by Guru Maharaj Ji’s delegation at their Siba residence in Apata, recounted that her husband bled to death after falling into a drainage, as bystanders were too afraid to assist him before police arrived.
The late journalist is survived by his wife and two daughters, Blessing (15) and Ajibola (9). Mrs. Peters has appealed to the Oyo State Government and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) for support, lamenting the emotional and financial hardship the tragedy has imposed on her family.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Police Command confirmed that two suspects linked to the robbery were intercepted near Nigerian Tribune House, Imalefalafia. One was killed while resisting arrest, and the other is in custody as investigations continue.
The killing has once again heightened concerns over the rising wave of motorcycle-assisted robberies and violent crime in Ibadan and other parts of Oyo State.
