Resident Doctors Threaten Strike, Give FG 10 Days to Act

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has warned that its members may go on strike if the Federal Government fails to meet their demands within 10 days.

In a statement released after an emergency meeting, the doctors said they are unhappy that many of them have not received the 2025 Medical Residency Training Fund, outstanding salary arrears, and other allowances.

They also complained about:

The downgrading of membership certificates from the West African Colleges of Physicians and Surgeons.

The failure of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria to issue certificates.

Non-payment of the 2024 Accoutrement Allowance.

Poor treatment of doctors in Kaduna and Oyo states despite earlier agreements.

NARD said it had previously given the government time to resolve these issues but nothing has changed. While commending states that have paid the 2025 MRTF, the doctors stressed that they will no longer tolerate delays.

The group warned that if their demands are not met by September 10, 2025, doctors across the country will begin a nationwide strike.
