Osun Govt Bans Graduation Parties for Nursery, Kindergarten Pupils, Orders Three-Year Textbook Usage

Osogbo, Osun State – September 19, 2025

The Osun State Government has announced a new policy banning graduation parties for pupils in Nursery and Kindergarten classes across both public and private schools in the state.

In a circular issued by the Ministry of Education and signed by the Permanent Secretary, M.A.K. Jimoh, the government said only pupils in Primary 6 and students in SS 3 are permitted to hold graduation ceremonies.

According to the circular, the decision followed concerns about the increasing trend of elaborate graduation parties at the kindergarten level, which the government described as a source of financial burden on parents, a waste of valuable instructional time, and a commercialization of early childhood education.

“This policy aims to ensure that students, parents, guardians, and stakeholders focus on academic achievements at the end of their primary and secondary education cycles while reducing unnecessary financial pressure on families,” the circular stated.

The Ministry also directed that textbooks in both public and private schools must remain in use for a minimum of three consecutive years, allowing siblings to reuse them. It further banned the use of workbooks inside textbooks to prevent one-time usage.

The circular added that monitoring teams would conduct random checks, warning that schools found violating the policy would face sanctions, including fines or suspension of registration.

The government urged full compliance, stressing its commitment to maintaining the integrity and purpose of education in Osun State.
