OBJ Sympathizes with Ìwó Residents Affected by Friday Flooding After Heavy Rainfall

Ìwó, Osun State – Friday, September 12, 2025

Hon. Osunwo Buliaminu Jide (OBJ), aspirant for the Osun State House of Assembly representing Ìwó Constituency, has expressed deep sympathy with residents of Ìwó who were affected by the heavy flooding that occurred today, Friday, following hours of intense rainfall.

The downpour, which began earlier in the day, left several parts of the town submerged. Communities such as Agbowo, Karaa, Poyan along Oluponna Road, and some other low-lying neighborhoods were severely impacted, with floodwaters invading homes, shops, and streets. The incident disrupted movement, forced some families out of their residences, and caused losses to businesses.

Reacting swiftly to the development, OBJ described the flood as a painful experience for the resilient people of Ìwó and assured the victims of his solidarity and prayers during this trying period.

“I deeply sympathize with my people in Ìwó who have been affected by today’s flood. My heart and prayers are with every family that has suffered losses. Ìwó people are courageous and resilient, and I strongly believe we will rise above this challenge together,” OBJ said.

OBJ further advised residents to always manage their drainage channels carefully, noting that no one can predict the intensity of future rainfall. He acknowledged that in recent months the government has been working with excavators to clear water pathways, but the capacity of the channels is often disrupted by refuse dumped into rivers, gutters, and waterways. He urged the people to avoid indiscriminate dumping of waste and to embrace proper waste disposal practices in order to reduce the risk of flooding in the future.

“This incident reminds us of the importance of taking environmental issues seriously. I will continue to use my platform to advocate for proactive solutions that guarantee the safety and well-being of our people. No Ìwó family should live in fear of losing their homes or means of livelihood each time it rains,” he added.

The Assembly hopeful also urged community leaders, government agencies, and well-meaning individuals to rally immediate support for the victims, providing them with relief and assistance as they recover from the day’s losses.

As affected residents continued to scoop water from their homes and salvage property late into the evening, OBJ’s message of comfort was widely seen as a reassuring voice of leadership at a moment when many families are counting their losses.
