Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been ruled out of Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa after sustaining a shin bruise in the 1-0 victory over Rwanda in Uyo.
The Galatasaray forward, who was substituted in the first half on Saturday, was initially feared to have suffered an ankle injury but team doctors later confirmed it as a shin bruise. According to journalist Sulaimon Adebayor (Pooja), citing NFF sources, Osimhen reported discomfort on Sunday morning and will not travel with the squad to Johannesburg.
The 26-year-old, who recently returned to the national team after missing earlier fixtures, had a goal ruled out for offside before being forced off. His absence is seen as a major setback for head coach Eric Chelle ahead of the high-stakes clash against Bafana Bafana.
