Dangote Sells Petrol Cheaper Abroad Than in Nigeria — Marketers

Lagos, Sept. 14, 2025 — Fuel importers and marketers have accused the Dangote Refinery of selling petrol to international traders at ₦65 per litre cheaper than it offers Nigerian buyers.

The Depot and Petroleum Product Marketers Association of Nigeria (DAPPMAN) and the Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria confirmed that some of their members purchased Dangote’s petrol more cheaply in Lomé, Togo, than at the refinery’s local depots.

DAPPMAN’s Executive Secretary, Olufemi Adewole, said Dangote’s pricing strategy was squeezing competition, as the refinery often cut prices only when importers brought cargoes into Nigeria. He added that while Dangote publicly claims to prioritize Nigerians, its lower prices for foreign traders and strict delivery conditions burden local marketers.

In response, a Dangote Refinery spokesman dismissed the allegations, linking them to opposition from NUPENG, which recently accused the company of anti-union practices.

The refinery announced it will begin direct distribution with CNG-powered trucks on Monday, reducing the gantry price to ₦820 per litre to further cut pump prices nationwide.
