Osogbo, Nigeria – September 17, 2025
Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has unveiled a new package of educational support aimed at improving public schools across the state as the 2025/2026 academic session begins.
The initiative includes the distribution of instructional materials, solar panels, and vehicles to strengthen school monitoring and learning conditions. Among the items rolled out were a Sienna vehicle, six minibuses, 31 motorcycles, 30 sets of 300-watt solar panels, 110 mathematics teaching kits, 100 interactive boards, 215,000 exercise books, and 125 computers. Thousands of textbooks, diaries, and cartons of chalk were also supplied.
Represented by Secretary to the State Government Teslim Igbalaye, Adeleke said education remains a “top priority” of his administration. He highlighted past interventions, including the refurbishment of over 400 classrooms in 139 schools, provision of 12,500 sets of furniture, and approval for the 2024 UBEC/SUBEB Action Plan, which covers the construction of 333 classrooms, boreholes, toilets, ICT facilities, and perimeter fencing.
Osun’s Universal Basic Education Board Chairman, Ibukun Fadipe, said the vehicles and motorcycles will be deployed across local councils to monitor schools more effectively.
Beyond infrastructure, the state has expanded its Imole School Eye Health Programme, screening over 345,000 pupils for vision problems. More than 42,000 children have received free glasses and medication, while surgeries are being conducted for critical cases.
The comprehensive approach reflects the Adeleke administration’s dual focus on raising learning standards and addressing the health needs of schoolchildren.
