A fiery accident involving a diesel-laden tanker and multiple vehicles left three people injured on Sunday afternoon along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, near Iyana-Isolo, Lagos.
The incident, which occurred around 1 p.m., began when a tanker transporting 45,000 litres of diesel from Apapa to Oshodi collided with a commercial minibus before being hit by two trailers—a flatbed and a 40-foot container truck. The impact sparked a blaze that engulfed the vehicles.
Officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service promptly responded to the emergency and successfully contained the fire, preventing further damage.
Confirming the incident, the Controller General of the agency, Margaret Adeseye, said no fatalities were recorded, but three individuals sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment.
She explained that the quick deployment of fire crews from the Isolo and Bolade stations ensured the flames were extinguished and mop-up operations completed. Adeseye urged motorists to drive with caution and obey traffic rules to avert similar accidents.
The wreckage of the vehicles was later cleared to restore normal traffic flow on the busy highway.
