NDLEA Intercepts 104,900 Tramadol Capsules Bound for Terrorists

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 104,900 tramadol capsules allegedly destined for insurgents in Borno State.

According to the NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, the drugs were discovered on Friday, August 29, concealed inside the driver’s compartment of a fuel tanker at the Abuja/Kaduna tollgate.

The suspect, Hassan Buba, was immediately taken into custody.

In related operations, NDLEA operatives at Gwargwaje–Zaria checkpoint arrested another suspect with 34.15kg of skunk on Saturday.

On the same day, the agency arrested a major supplier of illicit opioids in Borno shortly after he received fresh supplies from Onitsha, Anambra State.

“Recovered from his apartment at Chescon, Pompomary area of Maiduguri include 30,640 pills of tramadol 225mg, 7,940 tablets of rohypnol, and cash totaling ₦7.9 million in new ₦200 notes,” Babafemi said.

In a follow-up operation in Yola, Adamawa State, NDLEA arrested another suspect, Hamisu, after intercepting a golf saloon car (GME 253 HP) loaded with sacks of pepper concealing 79 blocks of skunk weighing 58kg. The vehicle, driven by Sani Suleiman, was traced back to Gombe State.

The agency said investigations were ongoing, pledging to intensify its clampdown on drug cartels supplying terrorists and criminal gangs in northern Nigeria.
