The Osun State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the reconstruction of the Iwo–Osogbo road, clarifying that the approval process had long been underway and was not a response to recent agitation.
According to the Governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Governor Ademola Adeleke initiated the procurement process nearly three months ago, which culminated in the issuance of award letters to contractors earlier this week. By Thursday, all letters had been delivered, and contractors confirmed they would mobilize to site by Monday.
The Commissioner for Special Duties and Regional Integration, Dr. B.T. Salami, also visited the project site on Thursday for a pre-work inspection.
“The Governor has consistently shown genuine commitment to the development of Iwoland,” the statement read. “From the dualisation of Iwo township roads to the Iwo–Osogbo reconstruction, Mr. Governor is fulfilling his promise to Kabiyesi, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, as well as the Iwo Board of Trustees and elders.”
The government urged the public to disregard reports suggesting that the Governor acted only after pressure, stressing that the project has always been a priority.
