2027 Elections: Opposition Raises Alarm Over INEC’s Voter Data

ABUJA — Tensions are rising ahead of the 2027 general elections as opposition parties clash with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over alleged discrepancies in the ongoing voter pre-registration exercise.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar have all expressed concern about the latest pre-registration figures, which indicate unusually high numbers in the South-West, particularly Osun State, compared to other regions. They warn that the trend could undermine the credibility of the polls.

INEC, however, dismissed the concerns, insisting that the data aligns with past voter registration patterns.

In a related development, forensic experts in Nigeria have pledged to assist the commission in verifying and addressing the discrepancies. As of press time, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had yet to comment on the matter.
