Akinlalu, Ife North – October 4, 2025
The Osun State Police Command has pledged to arrest and prosecute all Amotekun operatives involved in the killing of three residents of Akinlalu, a community in Ife North Local Government Area of Osun State.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this on Friday while giving updates on the ongoing investigation. He confirmed that the identities of the Amotekun officers allegedly responsible for the killings had been established, and efforts were underway to apprehend them.
“We met with the affected community, and they have given us their statements. Some of the operatives involved have been identified, and there’s no hiding place for anyone. Many are currently on the run, but we will get them unless they flee Osun State,” Ojelabi stated.
Residents of Akinlalu had earlier accused operatives of the Osun Amotekun Corps of storming the town on Tuesday, opening fire indiscriminately and killing three unarmed civilians — identified as Oyebamiji Ibrahim, Ismail, and Olutayo Abiola. Eyewitnesses alleged that the victims were not involved in any confrontation, and that about ten others sustained gunshot injuries.
A community source, Kamardeen Babarinde, recounted that the violence stemmed from a dispute involving suspected cocoa thieves in Aba Oba, a nearby village. He claimed that Amotekun officers initially settled the matter on Monday, only to return the following day and unleash gunfire on residents.
Another witness, Jeleel, alleged that the operatives arrived in three vans, shot randomly, and later took away the bodies of those killed.
However, in a statement issued in Osogbo, Amotekun’s spokesperson, Idowu Yusuf, offered a different account, claiming that the operatives were ambushed by armed hoodlums while responding to a distress call from Akinlalu farmers. According to him, three people died in the ensuing gun duel, while two rifles stolen from the corps were later recovered from the attackers’ hideout.
Meanwhile, tension remains high in Akinlalu as residents demand justice and call on both the Osun State Government and the Police Command to ensure a transparent investigation into what they described as a “bloody and unprovoked invasion.”
