FG to Dangote, NUPENG: ‘This is important for Nigeria’s peace, stability’

The Federal Government on Monday appealed to the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and the management of Dangote Group to embrace peace in resolving their lingering dispute.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, made the plea during a conciliatory meeting held at the ministry’s conference room in Abuja.

Dingyadi stressed that the dispute must be handled with caution, describing it as critical to the peace and stability of the country.

“We are here to reconciliate our labour unions in the oil industry and the employers in Dangote Group. This is not the first time we are having such a dispute, and we believe that by sitting together we should be able to resolve it,” he said.
The Minister urged both parties to be accommodating, listen to each other’s views, and contribute to a lasting resolution.

“What we are discussing today is very important to the peace and stability of the country and our economy. The oil industry is not a sector that we will play with,” he added.

The meeting comes amid rising tensions, with PENGASSAN recently backing NUPENG and threatening strike action over the dispute.
