The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed claims that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has validated and released a list of its state chairmen nationwide.
In a statement issued on Sunday through the party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC leadership described the report, which circulated in some media platforms, as “fake news” intended to cause confusion within the party.
Abdullahi clarified that the ratification of state leadership is an internal matter guided strictly by the party’s constitution. He stressed that INEC only recognises submissions made through proper channels after due diligence, and no such list has been confirmed or released.
The clarification comes amid ongoing leadership tussles within the ADC, especially following INEC’s recognition of former Senate President David Mark as the party’s national chairman. The development has triggered disputes that recently saw a court summon both Mark and the National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, over the party’s leadership changes.
The party, however, denied reports of a court injunction barring INEC from recognising the Mark-led faction, insisting such stories were the handiwork of “desperate political jobbers.”
Abdullahi urged members and stakeholders to remain vigilant against misinformation while reaffirming the ADC’s commitment to internal democracy and party discipline.
