12 Trafficking Victims Rescued in Kano on Their Way to Saudi Arabia

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has rescued 12 female victims of human trafficking in Kano.

According to NAPTIP’s Kano Zonal Commander, Abdullahi Babale, the victims—aged between 15 and 50—were intercepted on Sunday at Karota Luxurious Park, Hotoro, while trying to travel through Ghana to Saudi Arabia for suspected labour exploitation.

The victims, who are from Kano, Katsina, Borno, Jigawa, and Zamfara states, were reportedly deceived with fake promises of better jobs abroad.

Babale praised the Kano State Hisbah Board and its Commander-General, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, for working with NAPTIP to carry out the rescue. He also thanked the state government for supporting the fight against human trafficking.

He assured that the women would receive counselling and rehabilitation before being reunited with their families.

Babale further warned parents to stay alert and protect their children from traffickers who take advantage of economic hardship to lure victims with false promises of greener pastures.

“We urge members of the public to report any suspicious movement or activities related to human trafficking in their communities,” he said.
